South Africa has edged out England to be named host nation of the 2009 IPL. The decision was made after a meeting between the IPL commissioner, Lalit Modi, and the Cricket South Africa chief executive, Gerald Majola, in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS update
First impressions are great, but I didn’t get that much time to play last night. I first tried the dual boot option on my main machine while watching the IPL match but it wasn’t that successful. The drive resize bombed out every time I tried it. I then tried the "install in Windows" option which worked, but when I rebooted or shut down my computer froze. This was frustrating, so I dragged out my older box and did a clean install. The new install process is great and the install ran without a hitch. All my hardware was detected, but by the time I’d finished I was to tired to play much. Charlie woke me at 4:30 this morning and as Habibti isn’t here I couldn’t get back to sleep, so here I am playing and trying things out. I’ll post more as I go, but I’m liking what I see so far.
The match between Deccan Chargers and the Rajasthan Royals was nail biting stuff and was up in the air till the last over. There is more tension in a T20 match than any Hollywood thriller I’ve seen in a long time, but they’re more fun when I watch with Habibti so she must come home now.
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
I’ve been keeping tabs on the release and got very excited yesterday when I saw that it was coming in 1 day. I’d planned today carefully. I’d only start the download at 12:00 as it would take about 3 hours 45 minutes and I’d be able to watch tonight’s IPL match while I installed it. I’d moved my computer to the dining room table and positioned it so that I’d just have to look up to watch the action over my monitor. I’ve been frugal with bandwidth the last few days to ensure I don’t get capped after the 699 MB ISO download. I’d nuked the SuSE installation that I’ve been playing with the last few weeks. I’ve short listed junk food items that I’ll pick up. Cats will get a can of food each so that I don’t have to go running around the neighbourhood making Pssst sounds under every car and bush, they’ll be to fat to run or jump anywhere. I’ve even pulled down my little penguin suit from the attic that only comes out when Habibti is away.
I’ve just gone to the Ubuntu web site to see that Ubuntu 8.04 LTS is "coming soon"? WTF? Habibti is coming home tomorrow and I don’t want to have make a choice between welcoming her home or playing with Ubuntu.
Update: Okay, I admit that I’ve been sitting here making up phrases that LTS stands for in my frustration.
- LTS – Let’s Tease Somebody
- LTS – Long Time Suspense
- LTS – LOL till Squinch
I’ve just started my download, but at current rate I’ll only start playing well into the Deccan Chargers v Rajasthan Royals match. Bummer, but at least it’s coming and Habibti won’t have to compete with a penguin for my attention/affection.
