Plea to public to donate to historic rescue!

leave a comment

safe SANCCOB has made history by successfully staging a mammoth operation to move 129 oiled African penguins from Luderitz in Namibia to their centre in Cape Town.

On Tuesday afternoon, 21 April, SANCCOB admitted 129 dusty and tired African penguins to our centre in Cape Town after they had endured a gruelling 20 hour road trip that spanned 1 300 kilometres.

On hand to welcome the weary band of travellers were SANCCOB veterinarian, Dr. Tertius Gous, and an experienced  team of staff members and volunteers, who immediately began the intensive rehabilitation process.

This sort of rescue doesn’t come cheap and SANCCOB is asking all lovers of the African penguin (listed ‘vulnerable’ to extinction in the red data list) to dig deep into their pockets to help us to pay for the rehabilitation of these 129 plucky penguins.

hungry The cost of the rescue is estimated to cost in the region of R100 000.

To contribute towards the cost of this rescue:

Go to www.sanccob.co.za click on the ADOPT A PENGUIN BUTTON to adopt a penguin for R500

Go to www.sanccob.co.za menu and click on the DONATE BUTTON to donate

Or contact Margaret Roestorf, SANCCOB Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator   Tel: +27 21 557 6155; Mobile: +27 82 495 6339; Email: marketing@sanccob.co.za

Please remember that EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.  We will regularly update the story on our website www.sanccob.co.za as it unfolds, so that you can track the rehabilitation of these charismatic creatures back into the wild.

So this new lark is not working that well. A link-a-day lasted all of two days and when you start blogging about blogging, or even worst blogging about not blogging then it’s time to try something else.

I’ll put this up though, as my link for the day:

Well the first ODI kicks off in about 2.5 hours. Very exciting stuff. Must say it’s hard to keep my mitts off the KP Pietersen voodoo doll. Lets see how it unfolds first.

So, day two of my new initiative. AfriGadget is the site for the day.

AfriGadget is a website dedicated to showcasing African ingenuity. A team of bloggers and readers contribute their pictures, videos and stories from around the continent. The stories of innovation are inspiring. It is a testament to Africans bending the little they have to their will, using creativity to overcome life’s challenges.

There are some great articles there. Like the "Mobile Phone Based Auto Security System” invented by a young man from Kenya.

Morris Mbetsa, an 18 year old self-taught inventor with no formal electronics training from the coastal tourist town of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean in Kenya, has invented the “Block & Track”, a mobile phone-based anti-theft device and vehicle tracking system.

Looks amazing. Good to see credit being given to innovation from the “dark continent”.
