Do flies sleep at night?

Posted by – March 2, 2010

We have problem with flies at home. They swarm in first thing in the morning and just fucken hang around all day. We spray and keep things clean but to no avail. They just keep on coming, but at night ….. nothing. Not a fly to be seen, not one party animal. No little insomniac buzzing fuckers looking for a snack.  So I’ve been wondering – “Do flies sleep at night”. This has been on my mind the last while. Strange thing to obsess about I know, but at least it kept the ear worm at bay.

So this evening I finally got around to firing up Google and doing a search. As I started typing in my question Google did that drop down of thing of popular search term to help me out and it seems I’m not the first to ponder this weighty issue, amongst other fly related questions.

flies

4 330 000 results for my question! Bottom line? Flies do sleep at night. They even nap in the day time. Their sleeping habits are pretty much the same as humans. Does not solve our problem, but interesting to note that the poop questions comes up a lot less. A case if ignorance being bliss?

You know you’re a geek when you can identify with this:

I take great pleasure in checking my server’s uptime. Not same amount of pleasure Tiger Woods gets out of his “uptime” I bet.

As of today (25/02/2010) it’s sitting at 202 days.

So we are into the Teens. What can I say that hasn’t been said about the last decade? Not much, so I’m not going to wax lyrical about how much better things will be this year and decade, it will be what it will be.

We managed to get to Camps Bay before 7 this morning which was great. Dogs had a blast, as you can see.

All I can say is, life is tough here in Africa but if you don’t sweat the small stuff then everything comes up roses.

I’m sick in bed with flu, seems to have been a winter for it this year. This is the first time that I’m actually in bed though. I feel as guilty as all hell as I have a ton of work to do, but fuckit it feels good. Even though I’m laying here reading I’m still not resting, I have laptop, cell and landline around me. Skype is open, as is both mail clients and two instances of Google Wave. There is a SSH session to the new FormFunction hosting server as I’ve just deployed a site and I’m keeping tabs on the match between India and Australia which may be a non-event due to a cyclone forming over the Arabian Sea near Mumbai.

Habibti is buying is a new coffee machine as our old has just lost too many pieces along the way. Can’t wait to see what she gets.

The one thing that is making me feel like I’m really sick is the fact that both the cats are snuggling up to me which is pretty cool, except for the fact that Annie moans every time I as much as try and sneak a piece of fudge never mind move or even try get comfortable.

In the photo below I have Charlie (Chasie) on my right and Annie between my feet.

Ubuntu 9.10 is out in 6 days. I’ve got my Google Wave account. Windows 7 was released yesterday (I’ve been using the RTM version for a few months now though). WordPress 2.8.5 is out. ActiveCollab needs upgrading. ISPConfig 3.0.1.6 is out. The list just goes on and on and on.

Man, all this to learn, do, poke, play, test, upgrade and think about. And non of it makes me any money, when did being busy become so unproductive?
